Venus is the planet of love, harmony, and beauty.

Imagine yourself on a first date, the glow of candlelight around you.

Music so sultry and slow, your words come out in a whisper.

Your date pulls their chair closer, their knees pressing ever so gently against yours.

The table is set with a bottle of sangria, the taste of cinnamon and sweet nectarine to be shared between you.

Amid sips, you share secrets too.

Things usually left unspoken fall gently from your lips like cherry blossoms on a breeze.

It may not be love, but the setting is bringing you ever so much closer to it.

Mood, lighting, and music, this is Venus’ domain.

The meaning of Venus
Padmini, the Lotus lady: an excellent category of woman according to the Kama Sutra. Chromolithograph by R. Varma.

Venus is a sensory-orientated planet, it is all about what feels good.

It rules earthy Taurus and airy Libra, two signs that find pleasure in harmony and balance. There is no need for harsh words, colors, or lighting in either of their homes. Both signs also have a deep appreciation for beauty, with Taurus being more drawn to the beauty of the natural world and Libra to the created one.

And of course, to talk of Venus is to talk of love and relationships. With Taurus, this love comes through creating comfort and stability. With Libra, it is the sharing of thoughts and desires. Through the other signs, Venus’s love expresses itself in unique ways. In Pisces, it gives itself up wholly, whether the sacrifice is demanded or not. In Aries, it pushes itself and those it loves with a fierceness. In Virgo, its love is mercurial, analyzing and perfecting endlessly.

In whatever sign, Venus is transmuting it’s self through, know that society is greatly influencing its expression. For whom we love and how we love is often a reflection of the world around us. Is not the symbol for Venus a mirror?

Through its looking glass, we see the values of a society. Who is held on a pedestal and who is kept far, far below? Whenever there has been a significant Venus transit, the rights of women and gender-nonconforming people come to the forefront. During this time, Venus asks us, how can there be harmony when a significant proportion of humanity is disregarded?
