About Me

River Ulrich

What guides my readings

I see tarot and astrology firstly as a spiritual art. Like making music or writing a story, each reading is a conversation between the client, myself, and Spirit. As a teacher and reader, I work as both a guide and a messenger.

Secondly, these practices are great therapeutic tools. They can help us understand our patterns and how to break free from them. They can also prepare us for difficult times and support us in getting through them.

Bi Jove! Behind the name

By Jove was originally a Latin oath, pro Iovem or pro Iuppiter, used by the Romans like, “my God!”, in reference to the King of the Gods, Jove or Jupiter.

As a rising Sagittarius, I have long felt connected to its ruling planet Jupiter, who has dominion over long-distance travel, philosophy, and beliefs. I have spent most of my adulthood traveling the world, learning about different cultures and ways of living. These experiences shape my astrology and tarot practice.

To further play on the expression, By became Bi, because my queer identity is an important part of who I am as a reader. My client sessions and classrooms are a safe space for people of all orientations and backgrounds.

History with astrology

My history with astrology goes way back to my childhood when I used to cut out my Sun sign horoscope from Seventeen Magazine and glue it in my diary. Even back then, I was curious about the different and wonderous components of people and what made them the way they are. However, my official study didn’t begin until 2014 when I first moved to Los Angeles. In the city of Angels and Stars, I devoured all the astrology books I could find and took classes as well.

Some of my early influences were Howard Sasportas, Liz Greene, Steven Forrest, Jan Spiller, & Isabel Hickey.

Some of my more recent influences are Jessica Lanyadoo, Chris Brennan, and Adam Elenbaas.

History with tarot

My tarot practice began in 2020 when a best friend introduced me to the cards. I was instantly drawn in, its images and symbols felt like different faces of what I had already learned through my many years of studying astrology.

My practice deepened into a daily ritual that turned into me reading for friends and eventually starting my own business.
